London 1

Ice Skating & Star Wars

So I’m a little late on posting this as I didn’t get around to it before Christmas, but both of these events are still on so I thought it won’t hurt to tell you about them. It will also be good to have this to look back on. This year I’m going to try my hardest to log more holidays/days out on this here blog, as it will be good to have a little diary of them. Hopefully, my Florida post will be up soon too even though that was 6 months ago now!

So at the end of November last year Anthony and I went to London for the day. I’d planned the whole day as a surprise for Anthony and it went off without a hitch, thank god! We got into London for 10.15am and headed straight for our morning activity: Skate at Somerset House. I’ve seen so many people mention this in the last couple of years and say how fantastic it was, so this year I finally booked us tickets.

Anthony used to skateboard when he was a teenager so I figured he would pick it up quite quickly and he did. I took a little longer to get used to it, but I was going round without holding on to the edge or Anthony by the end of the session. And we didn’t fall over either – Bonus! It was so much fun to skate around with the Christmas Tree all dressed up and music playing. We definitely want to go back again. Skate at Somerset House in open until the 15th January, so get in quick if you’d like to go.

Fortnum & Mason Christmas Arcade

After our session we wandered around the Fortnum & Mason shop and marveled at all of the Christmas decorations. Everything was so pretty, but also quite expensive for some things. We ended up treating ourselves to a tree decoration of a pair of skates for the Christmas tree, to remember the day.

We also walked through Covent Garden and had a look around the shops – it looked so Christmassy with the decorations up and there was even live music.

We were pretty hungry afterwards and had to grab something quick to eat before our afternoon activity, so we settled on Five Guys. We hadn’t had a Five Guys before, so thought it was a perfect opportunity to try it. It was amazing! By far the best burger I’ve ever had and they gave us a mountain of fries too. All washed down with Vanilla and Oreo milkshakes. My mouth is watering now just thinking about it.

For the afternoon I’d booked us to go to Star Wars Identities at the O2. Anthony has always been a big Star Wars fan and I liked the films too, so I thought it would be good to do while we were in London for the day.

Star Wars Identities

The exhibition was great – it had paraphernalia from the films and loads of concept art and models too. We were given a headset when we arrived and each station had a small video playing that gave out information about things like how the films were made, background on characters and how the vehicle/ships were created.

My favourite part was that you could build your own character. When we entered we were each given a wristband and whilst going around the different areas were asked questions about our characters and we had to scan the wristband on the answer we wanted to choose. The first area was to chose our species. I went for an Ewok and Anthony a Wookie – in case you were wondering. Other questions involved which planet we had come from, what jobs we had and what personality trait we valued the most. The final question was whether we could be tempted by the dark side or not. Naturally, we both resisted temptation and stood with the Rebel Alliance. You could then email your character to yourself and it came with a couple of paragraphs about your background – so cool! The exhibition is open until September 2017, so you should definitely check it out if you’re a Star Wars fan.

On a side note we watched the original trilogy over Christmas and I didn’t realise how good they were. I’m officially a massive Star Wars fan now and can’t get enough!

Once we’d finished at the exhibition we decided it was time to make our way back to Euston station and then on to home. We took a casual stroll back through London, winding our way around the underground and taking in all the pretty Christmas lights throughout the dark streets. We had such a lovely day and it was nice to spend some time together doing something that we wouldn’t normally do.
