February Monthly Musings

I’ve decided to start a new series on this blog. It’s nothing ground-breaking or anything but I want to share some more personal bits on the blog, as well as beauty products and I thought this might be a good way. May I introduce Monthly Musings! Original, I know! I’ll be doing a new post at the end of every month (probably the last weekend, as I’m going to start posting at the weekends more) to share any life updates with you and let you know what I’ve been doing and loving that month. I’m not promising every month will be that entertaining but it can also be a bit of a brain dump too! I expect that some of these will be quite long – like this month’s, so you might want to grab a cuppa and get comfy.

So onto February…

We went to the cinema twice this month. The first to watch Winchester and the second to watch Fifty Shades Freed. Winchester was awesome and I enjoyed it so much. A few years ago I never used to be into scary films (in fact, I hated them) but now I LOVE a good scary film, especially at the cinema where it’s dark and quiet – it adds to the spooky atmosphere. This one had a bit of history thrown into it too, as it’s based on the true story of Sarah Winchester and her home. How true it is depends on how much you believe in ghosts I suppose, but either way it was a good film and I spent a few hours afterwards looking up the real Sarah Winchester, which I highly recommend you do. Fifty Shades Freed is also really good. I only got half way through the first book ages ago and couldn’t read the rest, but after watching all 3 films I’m actually going to give them another go. Books are always full of more information than the films, so I love to compare the two. The only thing it did make me think of is *spoiler alert!* why do all love stories have to end with the couple having children? It’s quite tiring to always see the same ending in love stories: marriage and a baby or two. If that’s your jam then that’s fine, but I’d personally like to see 2 people find their happy ending in each other once in a while, instead of a family.

The past couple of weeks has had me thinking a lot about my weight. When I say weight I actually mean excess fat (and mainly around my middle). I’ve always been conscious of the extra weight I carry around my middle and part of me thinks it has something to do with my contraception, but these past couple of weeks it’s been on my mind more. Which ultimately is a good thing, as it’s motivated me to start eating really clean again. I’ve been cutting down on snacks and treats since Christmas but now I’ve completely cut them out and am eating more greens and less carbs. It’s only been a week so far and I already feel less bloated. Here’s hoping my frame of mind stays like this for quite a while now (or forever!). I’ve also been upping my cardio at the gym and although mentally it’s been hard, I’m actually quite enjoying it now. I’ve noticed that I’ve lost some strength but I knew that would happen and I just need to remember that my body can’t do everything at the same time. I can always concentrate on building my muscle back up in a few months time.

I’ve never really been one for following fashion trends, or fashion at all for that matter, but lately I’ve found myself looking at more and more Instagrammers feeds and finding inspiration. I’m really taken with smart, sophisticated looks right now and I’m definitely looking at overhauling my wardrobe soon. To tie in with the above I’ve given myself until April to try and lose a few pounds, so that I can start investing in some nice pieces for summer. I’ve been looking into a capsule wardrobe type set up, as I spend way too much time in Primark buying things because they’re cheap and then never wearing them. I’m hoping by buying a few good quality pieces that will last me, I can actually be happy with my wardrobe and not stand staring at it for 20 minutes every morning waiting for inspiration to hit (it never does and I end up wearing a t-shirt and jeans most days!). I’ve also been looking into Sustainable and Ethical Fashion too and it’s so interesting. It’s also a minefield though, so I’m going to start off by concentrating on building a sort of capsule wardrobe and then start to add some sustainable brands into the mix later on. That way I won’t get too overwhelmed by trying to do everything at once. Also I’m going to start looking in more charity shops for clothes and hopefully I’ll find some great bargains!

I think that’s about it for this month. I’ve actually really enjoyed writing this because it gives me a chance to recap on the month whilst giving you guys a bit of an insight into what I’ve been up to. I hope you like this new series. Let me know your February highlights in the comments.
