I’m rubbish at looking after the skin on my body. I always make sure that I do my skincare routine on my face morning and night but body care usually gets done once every month, if that! With the current heatwave that we’re having I’ve found my skin has really been suffering. It’s drying out, flaking and just generally looking a little dull. I do have dry skin anyway, but this weather is exacerbating it even more. With this in mind a few weeks ago I decided that I really need to start a routine for my body, especially as my tattoos were starting to look very dull too. Here’s some products that I’ve been using over the last few weeks that have really helped nourish my skin.
I bought this at the Weleda Headquarters, as I knew I wanted to invest in my body routine more. This lotion is full of nutrients and essential fatty acids that the skin can easily absorb and includes mallow extract, shea butter and essential oils to support the skin’s natural defense against moisture loss. I’ve been using this every day since I bought it and my skin has definitely improved. I only have a tiny amount of flaking on my arms and legs now and don’t look like I’m shedding a layer of skin anymore! It’s definitely a product that I’ll be coming back to again and again – I may even try some of the other versions too.
Weleda Stretch Mark Massage Oil – £18.95
I know I’m not pregnant but I’ve been using this Stretch Mark Massage Oil anyway, as I completely fell in love with it at the Weleda Insight Day. It contains almond oil, vitamin E rich wheat germ and arnica extract which help to reduce the appearance of stretch marks. I have a few stretch marks around my thighs and bum that are quite bad and I know that I won’t be able to completely get rid of them, but I’ve been using this mainly to stop any more popping up. I’ve noticed the ones around my bum have mainly appeared since I’ve been going to the gym and as I’m currently focusing a lot of my gym work on my glutes, I’ve decided to use this to keep the skin supple and prevent more stretch marks appearing if I can. It also smells divine and I love applying it at night before bed, so the whole room smells of it.
Weleda Skin Food – £7.95
This is one of Weleda’s hero products and it has that status for a reason. It has extracts of calendula and chamomile in it along with a base of oils and beeswax, making it really nourishing and gentle on the skin. This has been a god send for my feet – I get quite dry, cracked heels and I’ve been applying a generous layer and then covering them with some thin socks overnight. Come the morning my dry skin has improved tenfold and my feet are presentable enough to wear sandals again! I’ve also been using it underneath my make up on any really dry patches, so that my make up doesn’t stick to them and it works brilliantly. It creates a barrier against the dry skin and my make up just smoothes over the top of it, like a primer, but it’s actually healing my skin at the same time.
This is more of a recent discovery for me. I know everyone always says that coconut oil is great for everything: hair, skin and cooking, but I just never got around to trying it before. I picked up a couple of small tubs of the Vita Coco Coconut Oil when it was on offer in Holland & Barrett to use on our new tattoos and I’ve been using it everywhere since. Any bit of really dry skin, I slather this on at night and in the morning the dry skin is all gone. I’ve even been using this as a lip balm and it works wonders – when I don’t lick it off my lips! Pure coconut oil is one of the most natural things you can use on your skin too, so you don’t need to worry about checking out ingredients. I alternate this with Skin Food, depending on whether I feel like using a balm or an oil, as the coconut oil can get quite messy (especially in this heat)!
You can probably see a theme here but I just love Weleda products so much, as they’re so natural and full of great ingredients for your skin. I know I’ve said this before but I’ve learnt so much about natural beauty from their Insight Day and they’re such a great brand. I am going to branch out and try more brands and products but I’ve only just started my green beauty journey and these are great starter products. I’m also going to make sure that I’m always stocked up on coconut oil as I’ve definitely fallen on the bandwagon with that one and I’m so glad I have!
