Summer Morning Skincare Routine

I don’t tend to do a lot of posts about my skincare routines, as I switch my products up quite a lot. I’m a total product junkie and love to add in new stuff all the time, however I’ve used the same four products religiously for the past couple of months now. It’s been working wonders for me, even with the weather changing back to a typical British summer! I’ve found that it’s tackled my dry skin issues and my blemishes really well and my skin looks pretty great, so I thought I’d share the products my skin has been loving!

First thing in the morning I like to cleanse with the Weleda Aknedoron Cleansing Lotion *. I put some on a cotton pad and gently rub it all over my face to take the night’s grime away and leave me with a clean base. I make sure not to rub too hard, as I don’t want to tug at the skin. This is great for spot prone skin as it contains orange, grapefruit, lavender and rosemary clean essential oils to tackle the bacteria that causes spots and stop them in their tracks. It also contains organic chamomile and biodynamic calendula to soothe any inflammation. I love how it makes my skin feel clean and fresh but not at all tight. The perfect morning cleanser.

Next I use the JOIK Refreshing Facial Toner with Aloe and Sea Buckthorn Oil * on the other side of the same cotton pad and swipe it all over my face. I really need to pick up some reusable cotton pads soon, although I do wonder if this toner would stain them as it has a strong orange colour to it and it’s part oil? If anyone has any recommendations for some good reusable cotton pads, please let me know in the comments below. I especially like this toner as it’s alcohol free, so doesn’t dry out my skin. It has grapefruit and peppermint essential oils to create a refreshing feel to the skin. It also has another ingredient that I’ve been loving in my skincare lately, which is sea buckthorn oil. I have a body moisturiser that includes it too and my skin loves it. Sea buckthorn oil is great for repairing and conditioning dry skin and it is said to have anti-ageing properties too. It really wakes my skin up in the morning and the scent wakes me up too! I do love this toner, however I’m not sure I’ll repurchase it purely because it’s a bit messy. To get it out of the bottle you have to shake it onto the cotton pad and it leaks when you lie it down – as I found out when I took it to London with me, so not great for travelling.

After reading that Lou Dartford uses the Bodhi & Birch Neroli Luce Revitalising Face Oil on her clients under their make up I went straight out and picked one up (well I didn’t actually go out, I went on the internet and ordered it!). Even though it’s summer my skin was really dry a couple of months ago and I just couldn’t fix it, no matter what I tried. I decided to add this oil in to my morning routine and within a week my dry patches had gone. The neroli helps to trigger the growth of new skin cells which helps boost the healing of dry and sensitive skin, while Frankincense helps to rejuvenate the skin. It also includes evening primrose oil, grape seed oil, apricot kernel oil and (my favourite, as mentioned above) sea buckthorn oil. It creates a super smooth base for my make up and you really don’t need a lot to cover your whole face. I always use this sparingly in the mornings as I want it to sink in well, which it does within a couple of minutes. It leaves my skin looking much plumper instantly and even though the oil is orange it doesn’t leave an orange colour on your skin.

Sometimes I leave my routine there, but mostly I add in another step: the Kimberley Sayer Ultra Light Organic Facial Moisturiser *. I’ve been using this nearly everyday for months now and I love it. You can see by the bottle that there isn’t much left and I’ll be using every last drop of this! It’s a brilliant everyday moisturiser – it’s hydrates, it sinks in well with no white cast and has SPF30, which has been crucial for the hot, sunny days we’ve been having. I especially love that I don’t have to worry about a separate SPF and the bottle is huuuuuuuge (120ml!!!)! It’s lightweight and doesn’t clog my pores, so I feel confident in using it everyday without getting breakouts. It contains lemon oil to detoxify the skin and help dry up acne, which is exactly what I need in the summer when my face is constantly wet with sweat! Also the SPF is non-toxic and is made from titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to protect from UVA and UVB rays. I’ll definitely be repurchasing this in the future, although I might try a different moisturiser next time and a separate SPF just because I like to try new products!

I really like this morning routine and my skin does too, but I think I’ll be having a switch up soon. As the Autumn comes in I’ll probably need to add some more nourishing products, but I’ll have a look at my routine and re-evaluate in a few weeks. My night time routine uses different cleansers and serums, so I think I’ll do a separate post on that soon.
