Before I eventually went green with my beauty products I’d already debated doing it a couple of times before. I’d make a decision to change everything up and only use natural & organic ingredients and then I’d start looking at labels and I’d get so confused that I’d give up! I’ll admit that it was too complicated and took too much time to do, when I was used to just picking up products off the shelf and taking them to the counter. As beginners we need simple ingredients and the less of them the better! This is why I wanted to introduce you to Mallow & White today – a perfect brand to start your clean beauty journey with.
Mallow & White was founded by Joanna White after her hobby of creating skincare in her kitchen worked brilliantly on her sensitive skin. She handed in her notice at the BBC and with courses, research and customer feedback, Mallow & White became what it is today. All of their products use only 6 ingredients or less, making their labels super easy to understand. They pride themselves on using simple and effective ingredients and all of their products are handmade in small batches for maximum freshness. Joanna says it perfectly: ‘Beautifully simple ingredients for simply beautiful skin’. They use recycled or recyclable material for their packaging and they also give 10% of profits to Kiva – a charity that empowers people to alleviate themselves from poverty. Having heard great things about their products I was super excited to try them out. I was very kindly sent the Restore range to try, but they also have 2 other ranges for different skin types.
I’ve been using their products now for a few weeks and I’ve really seen the effectiveness simple skincare can have on your skin. The star of the show for me is the Restore Facial Oil *. It includes Rosehip Seed Oil to help boost skin elasticity, Apricot Kernel Oil to nourish, Jojoba Oil to protect, soften and smooth skin, Grapeseed Oil which is a powerful antioxidant & Rose Geranium Essential Oil to rebalance the skin. This oil is aimed at normal/dry skin to help moisturise and create a glow to the skin. I have noticed that my skin has been much brighter, clearer and softer since I’ve been using this twice a day. As it’s winter I like to use an oil twice a day, as I have pretty dry skin and I like one that is easy to sink in and that I can layer under a moisturiser. This one is great for that and it’s probably the best oil I’ve tried for sinking in quickly. I’m really loving using this and so is my skin – I’ll be pretty sad when it eventually runs out!
The Restore Dead Sea Clay Mask * is next up on the list. It has Dead Sea Mud, Moroccan Lava Clay, Organic Green Tea Leaf Powder, Organic Cornstarch & Organic Geranium Essential Oil. This is a detoxifying mineral rich mask that once again is aimed at normal/dry skin. I’ve been using this once a week to decongest my skin and it’s definitely helped to clear up my blemishes. I actually haven’t had a really bad breakout since I started using this and if I have had a couple of spots, then the redness has gone down and they’ve cleared up extra quickly. I love powder face masks because they last so long. You really don’t need a lot and you can mix it with pretty much anything! I’ve used both water and honey, depending on what my skin needed at the time and both have worked exceptionally well. Whenever I use it with water I also like to scrub it into my skin a little before it sets so that my face gets a little bit of exfoliation too!
The last thing I got to try from the range is the Restore Cleansing Oil *. This only has Apricot kernel oil, Jojoba oil, Olive oil, Castor oil, Sweet orange essential oil & Lavender essential oil. Anything with Lavender in is always going to be a hit with me! The scent of this is absolutely lovely – it’s so relaxing! I don’t use a cleanser that I need to wash off in the morning, but I always enjoy reaching for this at night to remove my make up. It glides across the skin and sinks into any dirt and grime to lift it all away. I then use a flannel to remove it all and my face is left super fresh and clean. It makes removing eye make up a breeze too – even waterproof mascara! I did like this oil and it did a great job of removing my make up, however I prefer a balm cleanser for this time of year because it gives my skin the extra nourishment. This is a great oil cleanser and I really enjoyed using it, but I think I’ll be saving this for Spring or Summer. If oil cleansers are your go to then definitely look into picking one of these up as the ingredient list is gorgeous!
Mallow & White have really opened my eyes to how effective simple skincare can be. This brand proves that you don’t need a huge ingredient list to make a gorgeous product that works. A brand like this is perfect for anyone who is new to green beauty, because the ingredients aren’t confusing or super long and it makes reading labels so easy. Green beauty veterans will enjoy these products too – it’s refreshing to go back to basics sometimes.
