As some of you may know from my Instagram, I follow witchcraft. No, this isn’t the same magical practice portrayed in books and films, but it is pretty cool! I won’t go into details here, but you can read more about it on the internet and if you have any questions feel free to message me. However, in light of this I have a brand to showcase to you today that brings together my love of beauty and witchcraft: Alexa Sky Botanicals. This brand was started by Alexandra Paulino after she was diagnosed with psoriasis and couldn’t find skincare that wasn’t filled with chemicals but was also effective. She started to study ingredients and make her own skincare products and successfully managed to eradicate her psoriasis from her face, neck, arms and feet. After this success she then decided to create a skincare range and Alexa Sky Botanicals was born! The products are handmade in Surrey, England with passion, love and attention to detail. Their aim is to bring their customers wellness and beauty through highly effective, natural skin care products. The ingredients are all carefully selected from sustainable sources, family run businesses and local communities. You can read more about it here. All of their products are charged with crystals, to give support to your wellness as well as for their beauty benefits. I was generously sent two of their products to try out, so let me introduce you.
The first item I got to try was the Zen Mist Facial Essence Toner * which is charged with Selenite and Rose Quartz. I picked this one mainly because of the calming properties of these crystals – I’m a very stressed person in general, so need all the help I can get there! It is made with 96.8% organic ingredients which includes Comfrey for rejuvenation and to support regeneration, Allantoin to soothe, hydrate and minimise pores, Rosehip Seed Extract to nourish and Prebiotic cosmetic grade to encourage the growth of good bacteria. The Prebiotic cosmetic grade is an interesting ingredient and one that a few skincare companies have been looking into more lately. It encourages the growth of good bacteria so that your skin becomes less hospitable for bad bacterias that cause acne, eczema and skin disorders. It also helps to create a barrier against pollution and environmental damage from the sun, which is a great added bonus in skincare. I’m definitely going to be keeping an eye on how this develops in skincare over the next few months, as it seems like a really good ingredient. I’ve been using the toner day and night before my facial oil and it’s been a real treat to use. I love sitting quietly and spraying this all over my face, neck and chest and just breathing it in. It’s so refreshing and makes me feel so relaxed! As for how it’s working for my skin, I can say that it’s definitely looking plump and hydrated lately. My dry skin hasn’t been as bad since using this and I can tell when I apply my make up that it’s sitting so much better. I also like to spray this throughout the day, whenever I need a calming influence and it sits well on top of my make up too, creating a nice dewy look.
The second product I received was the Moroccan Rose Clay Mask * which isn’t charged with crystals but does have crushed Pure Seawater Pearls in it to diminish skin inflammation, promote healing and elasticity and protect against age spots. The pearls help to give a youthful glow to the skin. It also contains Acai Berries for healing skin cells and reducing fine lines and wrinkle and Frankincense Gum to tone and tighten skin. Frankincense gum is also used as a sedative because of it’s ability to create a feeling of mental peace and to promote relaxation. Whether entirely due to the Frankincense Gum or not, I do have a lovely relaxing experience whenever I use this mask. I like to mix it with water to create a paste, slather it over my face and then take some me time whilst reading, watching TV or practising some witchcraft! I’ve even found myself reaching for this when I’m in a rush and just applying it to my cheeks and chin, which is usually reserved for a straight from the packet mask for efficiency. I just love how it makes my skin feel. The first couple of times I used this it did seem to break me out a little, which I assume is due to the drawing effect it has on the pores, but after a few times of use I’ve noticed that my skin is much clearer in general. I do still get the odd blemish but I make sure to apply this when I see one come up and it takes the redness and swelling out of it, making it look less obvious. The rest of my face is much brighter and my skin looks much more plump and smooth. Alexa Sky Botanicals are also introducing Combos to their website soon, so that when you buy this mask you tell them your skin type at checkout and they will advise you of a customised mask that you can mix up for your skin concerns. I think this is an amazing extra and really does show that ASB are invested in giving their customers the best service. I tried my combo that was recommended to me and my skin loved it!
My first foray into crystal charged skincare has been a big hit and I can’t wait to try more. I love that beauty companies are taking on board the spiritual side of beauty now too, as our wellbeing contributes to our skin just as much as what we put on it. I love both of these products and they would be perfect for anyone who loves witchcraft like I do, or anyone who just wants an added little extra to their skincare. At £25.50 (toner) and £21.50 (mask) they aren’t the cheapest of products but in my opinion they are totally worth it. ASB stock a whole range of skincare, so I’m sure that you’ll be able to find something you love. I have my eyes on the Sleepy Halo Roll On to try next, as it actually has a Rose Quartz roller ball applicator 🙂 !
