Plant Based Pouts with PHB Ethical Beauty / AD

This post contains gifted items from PHB Ethical Beauty which have been marked with *. The company have provided them for review but have not had any control of this post. All opinions are 100% my own.

This month I was very kindly sent 2 lipsticks to try from PHB Ethical Beauty. I’ve mentioned PHB Ethical Beauty a few times on my blog and social media channels before and I think they’re a great natural and cruelty free brand. I especially think they’re great for beginners who maybe want dip their toe into natural skincare and makeup, without spending a fortune. They’re good quality products and very reasonably priced, so you really can’t go wrong.

I picked 2 shades of their 100% Pure Organic Lipsticks to try: Blossom * and Mulberry *. These lipsticks are made with 100% natural and 74% organic ingredients. They include anti-aging oils and rich organic butters to create a creamy yet long lasting formula, whilst also using pure mineral pigments to create rich colours.

They are vegan, cruelty free and even gluten free too. The Organic Shea butter that they include to keep lips soft and smooth, comes from a Women’s Co-operative in West Africa. I personally love it when a company makes an effort to source fair trade ingredients, so this is a big win for PHB in my eyes.

Now I love a lipstick! But usually I do gravitate towards red lipsticks – I think they suit me really well and I like to have a pop of colour on my face. However, because of this I do have a lot of red lipsticks. So this time when looking through the shades I purposely made myself pick 2 shades that weren’t red and were different to other lipsticks I’ve got.

Blossom * is described as a warm, peachy nude and is a bestseller for them. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed in this at first, but I think that’s because I had different expectations of this lipstick. I expected it to be more of a block colour than a shimmery tint of colour and was really surprised when I first applied it and I could hardly see it on my lips. I applied a couple more layers and the colour did get a bit deeper, but it seemed to be a diluted version of what was in the bullet. It does layer well though, which makes it easy to amplify the colour.

I’ve worn this a few times since and I am warming to it more now. It evens out my lips and has a shimmer to it that reflects nicely to imply bigger and fuller lips. I would wear this with a smoky eye, when I want to wear something that is subtle and doesn’t distract from my other make up but still pulls it all together.

Mulberry * is described as a vibrant shade with pink and purple tones that is great for the evening. I do find that this one has a better colour pay off than Blossom and I really love this shade. I was expecting it to be a little brighter but I think I actually prefer it being more subtle as it makes it more wearable. I would wear this in the day and wouldn’t feel like it was too much.

I love the pink/purple colour to this and I feel that the shimmer in it really makes it pop. This colour is great for someone who wants to try a different colour but is maybe a bit nervous to try something too bright. A great introduction to bright coloured lipsticks.

The formula of the lipsticks is what I love about them the most. They are super creamy and comfortable to wear all day – they feel more like a balm to me than a lipstick. Unfortunately this does mean that they don’t last very long and as soon as I’ve eaten or drank I need to reapply, but I don’t mind that as they can be reapplied really easily – I find I don’t even need a mirror! I’ve found myself reaching for these when I feel like I don’t have the effort to keep up with a bold lipstick and don’t have to get my mirror out to reapply – they’re so easy to wear. For £12.95 these are great natural, cruelty free lipsticks.

If you’d like to try these yourself or pick any other bits from PHB Ethical Beauty then you can use code BLOVE20 and get 20% off your first order with them. Go check them out!
