Around a month ago I was very kindly sent some goodies from S5 Skincare. My previous experience with their products stretched to a small sample I had in a Glossybox YEARS ago and I hadn’t heard of them much since then. When they asked if I wanted to try some of their products I thought why not give them a go. I’ve been using these for over a month now, so I’ve put together a review of the products and a bit about the brand for those of you who are new to S5 Skincare like I was.
Laura Rudoe created S5 with the view to transform people’s skin and improve their lives. She struggled with acne for years, which made her design S5 to solve skin issues. There are years of research gone into this brand and into harnessing bioactives found in nature to include in S5. Laura’s aim is to support people in their journey towards better skin and to share what she’s learned on her journey.
I picked 4 products to try, with the aim of being able to create pretty much a full routine. I must admit I haven’t only used these products for the past month, but I have used them at least once a day. I chose products that would target my dryness, dull skin and under eye circles.
Nourish Cleanser * – £32.00
This cleanser has such a cool texture. It’s sort of like a jelly/gel texture and I find it perfect for removing make up. It really sticks to the make up and grime on your skin and pulls it all off your face, so that you’re left with super clean skin. I find it so relaxing to come home from work and spend a couple of minutes massaging this into my face before removing it all with a warm flannel. I like to press the warm flannel to my face for a few seconds before I rub the cleanser off, so that I can breathe in the lovely aroma. This helps to open your pores too, so that you can get a good, deep clean.
I don’t tend to use cleansers like this for my morning cleanse, as they sometimes leave a little bit of residue and I prefer my face to feel really fresh in the mornings. However, if gel cleansers are your thing then you’d probably like this as a morning cleanser too.
Renew Eye Cream * – £42.00
This might be my new favorite eye cream. It’s one of the only ones I have that doesn’t make my make up sit in the fine lines around my eyes – I don’t know why some eye creams do this to me, but most of the ones I’ve tried do. This one, however, doesn’t do that. It nourishes the eye area but also sinks in pretty quickly. I prefer to use this at night and put a slightly thicker layer on to sleep in, but I’ve also used it in the morning too and it sits underneath make up really well.
White Lily is included to reduce the appearance of dark circles, Antartic Glycoproteins reduce the appearance of wrinkles and support collagen production and Low Molecular Weight Hyaluronic Acid works to hydrate, soothe and plump wrinkles. A winning formula in my book, as I can really see a difference in my dark circles and fine lines after using this.
Illuminate Serum * – £52.00
I love a good serum and this one is no exception! My skin can get pretty dull, so I like to use an illuminating product somewhere in my routine. I’ve just started using a retinol at night, but I only use it every other night so this serum fills in the gap on the nights I don’t use retinol. It’s still focusing on radiance, but in a gentler way.
This lightweight serum is great for layering with other products as it sinks in within seconds of application and I haven’t experience any pilling with this either. Before I started using the retinol I’d already noticed a difference in the glow of my skin just by using this, because it includes Vitamin C, which is great at brightening skin and supporting collagen synthesis.
Serenity Cream * – £46.00
This smells divine! It has a calming scent to it and I like to use this at night so that I feel all relaxed before drifting off to sleep. As a moisturiser it’s a medium thickness and I like to apply a thick layer before bed to really hydrate my skin. This would be great for sensitive skin as it includes Prickly Pear Cactus Extract to soothe and hydrate.
I must admit that there isn’t anything spectacular about this moisturiser that makes it any different from others I’ve tried (and I’ve tried a lot – moisturisers are my weakness, along with lip balms!) but I do really like it. It’s gentle on the skin, nourishing enough to tackle any dry patches and doesn’t break me out. All in all a really lovely moisturiser, that compliments other S5 Skincare products.
I’ve been very pleasantly surprised with S5 Skincare. It is what I would call the higher end of the price scale, but I’d happily pay that for most of these products. I’d recommend skipping the moisturiser and investing in the others – not because I don’t like the moisturiser, but I feel that there are cheaper ones out there that are really similar. All the other products I would definitely recommend picking up though and I have a feeling that I’ll be repurchasing these when they run out, which won’t be for a while yet as I still have loads left of these ones!
