So I’ve had a few people ask me what crystals are best to start with when you’re a beginner witch. My answer is always the same – try and go into a store somewhere and see which ones call to you. They’re the ones you should start with! However, if you don’t have a store near you or you don’t feel comfortable going in to one, then I’ve shared 3 crystals below that are perfect to get you started.
I’ve only listed the basic information for each one here, as this post would be very long otherwise, but if you have any questions then let me know in the comments. There are many properties for each crystal, both physically and mentally so just because it isn’t listed here doesn’t mean it can’t be used for that. I’d always recommend searching on the internet for which crystals are good for specific ailments/uses.
Chakras – Crown Chakra
Birthstone – April
Zodiac – All birth signs
Planet – Sun
Element – All (Earth/Fire/Air/Water)
Vibration – Number 4
Typical colours – Pure Quartz is colourless or white
This is the original beginner crystal. Most people will say that if you only get one crystal, then this is the one you should get. As you can see above it doesn’t have many specific properties and can be used for almost anything. It’s a cleansing crystal and can be used to dispel any negative energy. It acts as a soul cleanser and enhances psychic ability, helping to connect you to the spiritual dimension.
Clear quartz can also be used to substitute other crystals if you don’t have a specific one. If you’re doing a spell and don’t have a tigers eye then a clear quartz can step in instead. Personally I don’t really resonate with clear quartz that much and I mainly use it for cleansing my tarot cards occasionally, but I still believe that every beginner witch should have one in her collection.
Chakras – Heart Chakra
Zodiac – Taurus, Libra
Planet – Venus
Element – Earth, Water
Typical colours – Rose Pink
Known as the love stone, rose quartz works to open the heart and promote loving energy. Whether that’s self love, relationships, friendships – rose quartz will help with all of them. It dispels negative energy and protects against environmental pollution, turning it into loving, calming energy. It can comfort in times of grief and also encourages self forgiveness.
I actually have a few of these dotted around the house to add some extra loving energy to our home. I also gave Anthony one as a small token, along with a turritella agate and a sigil to protect him on his stag do! He came back fine, so I like to think they worked 😊
Chakras – Third Eye Chakra, Crown Chakra
Birthstone – February
Zodiac – Virgo, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces
Planet – Jupiter
Element – Air, Water
Vibration – Number 3
Typical colours – Light violet to a deep purple
Amethyst is a powerful and protective stone. It protects the user from all types of harm, including any ill wishes from others. It relives stress and anxiety, balances mood swings, gets rid of anger and fear and soothes any harmful thoughts. Amethyst helps you to tap into your spiritual awareness and allows you to connect with your intuition. It can also stimulate the mind, helping you to focus more and improve motivation.
Amethyst is one of my personal favourites. I have quite a few of them now, from tumblestones to geodes and anything in between. Its my calming stone. Whenever I get anxious or nervous about something I’ll pick up one of my amethysts and hold it for a few minutes, or put it in my pocket for the day. I always have an amethyst on me, usually in my make up bag so that I feel protected at all times!
I hope you’ve liked this post and that it’s helped you to find some inspiration to start your crystal collection! I’ve only scraped the surface of these crystals and there is much more to learn, so if you have any questions then please let me know. I’m thinking that I might do another couple of these and make it a bit of a series. What do you think?
