A Natural Alternative to Pixi Glow Tonic / AD

This post contains gifted items from Love Lula which have been marked with *. The company have provided them for review but have not had any control of this post. All opinions are 100% my own.

Pixi Glow Tonic has cult status in the beauty world. I’ve used it several times before and it’s a great addition to any skincare routine. However, I wanted to see if I could find a natural version that was as good, or better. I was browsing through Love Lula last month and I came across the REN Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic * and thought I’d try it out.

By looking at the ingredients list of them both we can see that Pixi Glow Tonic has 37 ingredients that includes things like Phenoxyethanol and REN Ready Steady Glow only has 16 ingredients. REN’s product includes natural ingredients like Mandarin Peel Oil and Orange Flower Oil whereas Pixi has phenoxyethanol and witch hazel, which are known irritants.

If you look them both up on EWG Skin Deep Database they both score a 5 rating, which is moderate. However, looking at the ingredients list you can clearly see that REN’s version includes more natural ingredients overall and I believe it’s the inclusion of the Lactic Acid that has marked it high – but that’s what makes the product effective. It’s clear that REN has the less filler ingredients and I’d rather use products that have less products in than ones that are filled with chemicals.

So onto the actual effectiveness. I’ve been using this for around 3 weeks now – I use it every night straight after my cleanser and before my serums and moisturisers (the same way I used to use the Pixi Glow Tonic). Since using this my skin has cleared up amazingly. I was having a break out before I ordered this and this has cleared it right up. It’s also improved the texture of my skin and I always wake up with glowing skin now! For full disclosure I did also start using some more new products around the same time (more on those next week!) but I know the effect that AHAs have on my skin and I can say that this has been the the main product that has cleared my blemishes up.

The main difference I find between this and the Pixi Glow Tonic is that this is more gentle on the skin. If I use this on it’s own after cleanser and don’t use a serum or moisturiser after I can wake up with supple, comfortable skin – when I did the same with the Pixi product I would wake up with tight skin in the morning, so I always had to use a moisturiser after it. I’ve found the REN one is much better for my skin and I feel would be a better option for people with sensitive skin too.

I also think the packaging is much nicer on REN’s product as it has a pump on top that disperses the exact amount of product you need. It saves using too much and wasting it. The only downside I can see is that the Pixi Glow Tonic is cheaper at £18 for 250ml, compared to REN’s £27 for 250ml. However, I feel that the extra money is totally worth it for a more natural product and I don’t mind spending a bit more. Natural products usually are more expensive so that’s to be expected really. The bottle is huge though so this will last you months and months using it once a day.

I’m really happy with the alternative that I’ve found. REN’s Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic is my new holy grail chemical exfoliator now and I’ll keep repurchasing this for the foreseeable future. It has such a good effect on my skin and I’m completely in love with it!
