4 Tips for Hydrating Winter Skincare / AD

It’s that time of year when the weather gets colder and our skin starts to dry out. With the cold weather and going in and out of houses with central heating our skin needs that extra bit of attention in the winter to make sure it stays in it’s best condition. Today I’m sharing 4 tips that can help keep your skin hydrated and nourished over the next few months.

1. Change To A Gel Cleanser

Changing at least one of your cleansers to a gel cleanser like the Gentle Cleansing Melt * from Evolve will be a big help. It contains nourishing organic baobab oil that soothes and hydrates. I love how it feels so luxurious to massage into the skin and it really gets deep into the pores.

Gel cleansers are gentle on the skin and don’t strip excess moisture while they are cleaning. They act to nourish the skin and leave it with a soft, hydrated feel. I like to use one at night so that it removes all my make up and sweat from throughout the day but leaves my skin soft and smooth instead of feeling stripped.

2. Use A Hydrating Serum

One of the best ingredients for dry skin is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that helps to keep the skin stable and renewed. It is a humectant which means it draws moisture in from its surroundings – this is why it’s usually found in water based skincare, so that it can draw the moisture from that. One gram of hyaluronic acid can hold up to six LITERS of water. Not only does it penetrate deep into the layers of the skin but It also revitalises skin’s outer surface layers, so they look and feel softer, smoother and radiantly hydrated.

So in short if you have dry and/or dehydrated skin you need a serum with hyaluronic acid in your routine. I like Rainforest Dew * from Tropic Skincare which also has evergreen fern extract which is an antibacterial and anti inflammatory agent to help with redness (which I suffer from a lot).

3. Add In A Facial Oil

Facial oils are a must at this time of year. There are 2 main ways that you can work them into your routine. You can use them directly on your skin as an extra step before moisturiser – I like to use mine before moisturiser so that the oil is locked in. Or you can add a couple of drops of oil directly into your moisturiser to give your moisturiser a bit of a boost. This works well if you have oily skin as it will give you an extra hit of nourishment without being too overpowering. I’ve been using the Miracle Facial Oil * from Evolve in the morning instead of a moisturiser and then at night before my moisturiser and my skin is loving it.

4. Don’t Forget Your Lips

Our lips are the things that suffer the most due to the thin layers of skin, so it’s super important to look after them. I use a lip balm every day and always apply a super thick layer before I go out the house, whether that’s on it’s own or under lipstick. I like to use the Evolve Lip Treat * during the day and apply it as often as I need. Then at night I like to use this Baahlm! Soothing Lip Mask * as an extra treat. It’s a thick mask that goes on thickly and stays on overnight to nourish lips with the coconut, castor and vitamin E oils that it includes.

So there we go. 4 ways you can ensure you don’t end up suffering with dry skin this winter. If you use this advice then I guarantee your skin will be nourished and healthy all winter – even if you only add one of these into your routine it will be a big help.
